You know those things that you have a love-hate relationship with?
But I’m going to try and give it the best review I can anyway!
Mascara is a makeup product I’m really fussy about. From the brush to the length of the wand to the thickness and drying time of the formula, if one of them isn’t to my liking then it’s going straight into the give-away-to-friends-or-younger-sister box.
Yeah, I’m fussy.
But somehow, this mascara hasn’t ended up in that box yet.
This cost £4.99 and can be found in Boots or Superdrug, I have the shade black.
The packaging is pretty snazzy, bright pink tube with a light green wand, it’s a nice addition to my collection. I actually quite like the wand too, it’s the right length which means I won’t get mascara on the rest of my face and and I won’t end up poking myself in the eye with it. The brush tapers slightly towards the end and gives a lot more length than volume. I’m able to use it at the roots of my lashes but I prefer using a smaller and thinner wand for that.
So far so good! But then we get to the formula. That’s what I’m seriously conflicted about.
I’m more accustomed to drier mascaras so when I used this for the first time, it didn’t end well. The formula is quite wet and caused my lashes to stick together which wasn’t the look I was going for. I ended up removing it all and going back to one of my favourites but I did try again the next day.
The trick with this mascara seems to be that you have to be very light handed.
Like really light handed.
When I tried this method, I have to admit that I fell in love. My lashes looked pretty damn good, were separated and appeared twice as long. And wow does it make my lower lashes stand out!
Albeit it took a little while to dry due to the wet formula but I can deal with that.
Oh, quick tip, if you get mascara on your face, wait for it to dry before flicking it off. Don’t try it whilst it’s wet.
Trust me, I learnt the hard way.
Anyway, I think that if you’re willing to try it out then it’s worth buying it but you’ve got to practice a few different ways of using it to find the right way for you. It’s known for being a mascara that causes mixed views, some love it and others really don’t!
Hope you enjoyed this review, let me know in the comments if you’ve tried Maybelline Great Lash and what you think of it!
