My Post-Workout Routine (+Food)

I honestly always thought that I’d be the last person to say “I workout”. 

(I was cooling down here, I usually spend a couple of minutes walking at about 4mph to get back to normal again)

But I do! Turns out that I genuinely enjoy it too. About three weeks ago I decided to join my local gym in order to become fitter. I’ve always been a healthy eater (greens make me happy) but my stamina and just physical fitness in general has always been quite poor. 

And yes, I do realise that I’m doing this back to front because I haven’t got a post explaining my workout routine but the thing is, I don’t feel like I have the right to make one. I’m still trying to figure out my own routine and I’m not exactly an expert either so I think we’ll just stick to the other stuff for now. 

Once I’m done working out and cooling down with some stretches at the gym, I arrive home and head straight for the shower. No matter how hungry I am, I’m not going to sit there covered in sweat. Nu-uh. 

It’s not really post-workout specific but I loooove using this cranberry body wash, it smells like actual cranberries and it’s so good.  But anyway, I have a quick shower and then pop downstairs to the kitchen to make myself some food. 

Usually I make myself brunch because I really dislike eating before going to the gym. First of all, it makes me feel sick and second of all, I don’t have enough time to let my food settle before I start exercising anyway. I take a small piece of fruit with me just in case I’m in need of some sugar. 

This week I’ve truly rediscovered my love for cinnamon. My post-workout meal for the past weekend has been an incredibly tasty, filling and fairly nutritious one. 

Doesn’t it look so good? 

I mix about 3/4 of a mug of porridge oats with a mug of water in a pan and bring it to the boil. Whilst I’m waiting, I chop up a banana to put on top at the end, it makes it sweeter and stops me from adding more sugar! 

Then I turn down the heat so it can simmer whilst I add in the good stuff. I add about a half a tablespoon of brown sugar, a tablespoon of crunchy peanut butter, a tablespoon of chia seeds and a level teaspoon of cinnamon. 

I then stir it about for a minute, transfer my porridge to a bowl and top it with the chopped banana. And I’m all done!

Now this sounds like effort but it takes me a few minutes and is oh so worth it. Plus, if you’re feeling extra lazy then quackers make instant oat packets that are cinnamon flavoured. They’re really tasty but aren’t the healthiest option in my opinion. 

Whilst this is all going on I like to listen to some pretty chilled out tracks since my workout playlist is quite hardcore.

I usually try to stay on my feet for a bit after going to the gym, I don’t want to stop all at once plus I feel pretty hyped up after a workout!
